The waste of ice cream sticks has long been a problem in the environment of Baiturrahmah Mosque, located in the Kayu Manis area of East Jakarta. As a place of worship and community activities for the surrounding residents, Baiturrahmah Mosque faces challenges in managing ice cream stick waste, which has been a significant contributor to waste-related issues in recent years. Based on these facts, a team from the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design took the initiative to organize community service activities (PkM) to help solve the waste problem in the Baiturrahmah Mosque area.
A total of 10 PKM participants, consisting of four lecturers, four students, one alumni, and one administrative staff, conducted the PkM activities at Baiturrahmah Mosque in Kayu Manis, East Jakarta, on January 28, 2024. The PKM team included Layla Nurina Kartika Iskandar, S.Ds, M.Ds, as the Chief Executor and also a lecturer from the Interior Design Program, along with Siti Febrina Rahmadani, S.Sn., M.Ds. (Interior Design Lecturer), Susy Irma Adisurya, S.Sn., M.Ds. (Interior Design Lecturer), Awang Eka Novia R, S.Sn., M.Ds. (Product Design Lecturer), Fidelya Maulida (Student), Aqila Ghaisani Aulia Rahma (Student), Adhina Rachma Sakinah (Student), Sofia Rana (Student), Kharisma Nusa Nagara (Alumni), and Ponadi (Administrative Staff). The PkM participants began the activities by conducting initial preparations, which involved collecting and cleaning the ice cream stick waste.
During this initial preparation phase, the PkM participants were taught how to collect ice cream stick waste and clean it efficiently. After that, the prepared ice cream stick waste was processed through assembly and painting to create decorative elements. In the end, the participants were asked to apply what they had learned so that the ice cream waste would result in a beautiful interior design product.
